SWB is now one loss away from being eliminated from their run for the Governor’s Cup after a 6-4 loss. The Yankees led most of this game but then Sean Henn was tagged for four runs in the eighth inning. It’s too bad because a nice start by Matt DeSalvo went to waste. He gave up two runs on five hits and and three walks with five strikeouts in seven innings.
Andy Cannizaro and Raul Chavez each hit solo homers in the loss. Angel Chavez went two for four with a run and an RBI.
SWB won their sixth straight game as they blew out Pawtucket. Eric Duncan went two for four with a double, three RBIs, and two runs. Bronson Sardinha went one for three with two walks, two RBIs and two runs.
Matt DeSalvo improved to 9-5 on the season with a nice start. He gave up five walks and he struck out three in five innings of no-hit ball.
SWB had plenty of hitting stars in their 11-2 win over Ottawa but Jose Cruz, Jr. was a notch above the rest. He went four for five with three doubles, two RBIs and two runs. Angel Chavez went two for four with a double, two RBIs and three runs.
Lost in all of the offense was a very nice start by Matt DeSalvo. He gave up one run on seven hits and three walks with nine strikeouts in eight frames.
The Yankees scored just a pair of runs in a doubleheader with Rochester but they still walked away with one win because of some solid pitching. Game one was a 3-1 loss in which Matt DeSalvo gave up three runs in three innings of work. The loss dropped him to 7-5 and Brett Gardner drove in the lone run with a solo homer.
Game two saw the Yankees yet again scored just a single run but Kei Igawa got the job done on the mound. He improved to 4-4 and he gave up six hits and a walk with seven strikeouts in six shutout innings. Gardner again came through with a double and he scored the only run of the game for either side.
Matt DeSalvo improved to 7-4 on the season with a nice start in the Yankees 8-2 win over Syracuse. He gave up two runs (one earned) on four hits and four walks with seven strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings.
Bronson Sardinha went two for four with a double and a solo homerun in the win. Erubiel Durazo went one for two with a solo homerun, two walks and two runs.
Matt DeSalvo gave up five runs (three earned) on seven hits and three walks with two strikeouts in six innings in a no-decision. Sean Henn toook the loss though and he fell to 1-3. He gave up two runs in 1 1/3 innings.
Kevin Reese went two for three with a run and an RBI. Alberto Gonzalez went two for four with a double, a run and an RBI.
The Yankees managed only one run on six hits in a tough loss to the Rochester Red Wings. Eric Duncan and Juan Francia had the only extra base hits for the Yankees. Each had doubled and Duncan scored the lone run while Francia had the lone RBI.
Matt DeSalvo took the loss and he fell to 6-4 on the season. He gave up three runs on four hits and four walks with five strikeouts in five innings of work.
Matt DeSalvo dropped to 6-3 on the season with a tough start in the Yankees 13-7 loss to the Bats. He gave up seven runs (six hits) on eight hits and three walks with two strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings.
Kevin Thompson was the hitting star in the loss. He doubled twice, three RBIs and a run.
The Yankees four game winning streak came to an end with a poor performance at the plate in their 3-1 loss to the Bats. The Yankees managed just five singles and one walk and Kevin Reese was the only hitter to reach base twice with a single and a walk.
A pretty good start by Matt DeSalvo went to waste and he fell to 6-2 on the season with the loss. He gave up two runs on three hits and two walks with six strikeouts in 7 1/3 innings.
For the third straight game, the SWB Yankees shut out their opponent and the last time one of their pitcher’s gave up a run was back on Saturday in the sixth inning. This time it was Matt DeSalvo with the nice start and he improved to 5-1 in the 5-0 win. He gave up three hits and four walks with seven strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings.
Kevin Reese went two for four went two for four and he belted a two run homer. Omir Santos doubled, hit a solo homerun and drove in two runs.
SWB hitters had a tough time at the plate in their 5-1 loss to the Durham Bulls. Alberto Gonzalez was the only hitter with two hits and he went two for four with a double and a run.
Matt DeSalvo struck out an impressive ten batters in 4 2/3 innings but he also gave up four runs on six hits and four walks. The loss drops him to 4-1 on the season.
Matt DeSalvo improved to 4-0 on the season with a nice start in the Yankees 3-2 win over Charlotte. He gave up two runs on four hits and a walk with seven strikeouts in seven innings.
Bronson Sardinha had the big hit of the game. His two run homer provided the bulk of the Yankees offense. He also had two of the team’s four hits.
The Yankees topped Ottawa 3-1 and Matt DeSalvo got it done on the mound. He gave up four hits and a walk with three strikeouts in six shutout innings. T.J. Beam struck out four in his two relief innings.

SWB dropped two today as they tried to make up a game from earlier in the week. They lost 8-2 in the first game with a rough start by Tyler Clippard. He gave up four runs on seven hits and three walks with three strikeouts in five innings. The loss dropped his record to 0-2. Bronson Sardinha hit a two run homer to account for both Yankee runs and Alberto Gonzalez went three for three with a run in the 8-2 loss.
Matt DeSalvo had a solid start but the Yankees still couldn’t win it in a 3-2 loss. He gave up a run on three hits and four walks with four strikeouts in five innings. Omir Santos went two for three with a double and a run.
Matt DeSalvo threw a very nice game today as he picked up his first win of the season. He gave up just a single hit and one walk with eight strikeouts in six innings of work.
Shelly Duncan hit another homerun and that was his fourth of the season. He went two for three with two RBIs and a run. He’s hitting .375 and he has eleven RBIs in just seven games. He’s a bit older for what you’d expect from a prospect though as he’s 27.
