The Thunder doubled up Harrisburg 8-4 and it was Marcos Vechinonacci and Kevin Russo who got it done at the plate. Vechionacci went two for four with a double, three RBIs and two runs while Russo doubled and drove in three. P.J. Pilittere had a team high three hits and he scored twice.
Chase Wright improved to 2-1 with a nice start. He gave up one run on five hits and two walks with two strikeouts in six innings.
Trenton took a 1-0 lead in their playoff series with Portland behind a fantastic start by Chase Wright. He gave up just one unearned run on seven hits with six strikeouts in 6 2/3 shutout innings.
Marcos Vechionacci went two for four with an RBI. Noah Hall singled, drew a walk, scored a run and drove in one.
Joshua Schmidt improved to 6-1 on the season in Tampa’s 4-3 win over Lakeland. He gave up one hit and two walks with two strikeouts in 1 2/3 innings.
Jared Greenwood went two for four with a double in the win. Marcos Vechionacci singled, drew a walk and drove in two runs.
Tampa had a tough time at the plate as they lost to Sarasota 3-1. Marcos Vechionacci had two of the three hits for Tampa and he scored their only run.
Brett Smith fell to 0-6 on the season. He gave up three runs (just one earned) on six hits and two walks in five innings.
George Kontos fell to 4-5 on the season with a rough start in Tampa’s 5-2 loss to Fort Myers. He gave up five runs (all in the first inning) on ten hits with five strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings.
Marcos Vechionacci wen two for three with a double and a run. Austin Jackson continued his hot hitting and he singled twice and scored.
Anthony Claggett improved to 7-8 on the season in a nice start in Tampa’s 6-0 win over Palm Beach. He gave up just three hits and a walk with two strikeouts in five shutout innings.
Jared Greenwood went two for four with a double, a homerun and three RBIs. Marcos Vechionacci went three for four with a triple and two runs.
Brett Smith fell to 0-3 on the season with a tough loss in Tampa’s 7-3 loss to Palm Beach. He gave up four runs on seven hits (two of which were homers) and two walks with two strikeouts in five innings of work.
Marcos Vechionacci doubled twice in the loss. Robbie Minor doubled, drew two walks and scored a run.
Kevin Whelan continued his transition to a starter and had his best game this year as he threw five no-hit innings in the Yankees 3-0 win over Jupiter. David Robertson and Joshua Schmidt each then threw two no-hit innings to finish up the no-hitter.
Francisco Cervalli went one for four with two RBIs. Marcos Vechionacci went two for four with a double and a run.
Colin Curtis scored on Edwar Gonzalez’s ground out in the bottom of the tenth as Tampa edged Dunedin 6-5. The win was particularly nice because Tampa came back from a 5-2 deficit.
Kevin Wheelan made a rare start that didn’t go well. I’m not sure why he was demoted but it might have been to work on his control. For Trenton, he had walked 25 in 31 innings (although he struck out 40). Also could have been that he was the odd man out with Ian Kennedy and Joba Chamberlain getting promotions.
Marcos Vechionacci was the hitting star in the win. He went four for five with three doubles, a triple, an RBI and two runs.
Daniel McCutchen had his second straight rough start and he picked up his first loss of the season in a 9-1 loss to Palm Beach. He gave up six runs on nine hits with seven strikeouts in five innings.

Kevin Russo had a nice day at the late in Tampa’s 8-3 win over Palm Beach. He went two for four and he drove in three runs. Marcos Vechionacci went three for five and he scored a run.
Phil Coke picked up his first win of the season in a nice start. He gave up one run on three hits and two walks with five strikeouts in seven solid frames.
