Eric Hacker did his best in the Yankees 1-0 win over Sarasota. He gave up just two hits and a walk with four strikeouts in seven shutout innings. Unfortunately, because the Yanks didn’t score until the eighth inning, he didn’t get the win. That went to Mark Melancon, who gave up one hit in two shutout innings.
Josue Calzado drove in the lone run of the game for either side. Seth Fortenberry went three for three and he scored the lone run.
Chris Carrara led the RiverDogs at the plate as they lost to Rome 7-5. He went one for three with a triple, three RBIs and a run. Josue Calzado went three for three with a double, an RBI and a run.
Bryan Villalona dropped to 0-3 with the loss. He gave up three runs on seven hits with three strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings.
The RiverDogs and Rome each took a game as they wrapped up a doubleheader. Game one saw Charleston take care of Rome 6-4 behind the bat of Seth Fortenberry. The centerfielder went two for three with two doubles, three RBIs and a run. Grant Duff improved to 14-8 and he gave up two runs in his five inning start.
Game two didn’t go as well as Bryan Villalona was tagged for four runs in the second inning. He fell to 0-2 on the season and Josue Calzado led the way at the plate. He doubled and drove in two runs.
Seth Fortenberry had a huge day at the plate in the RiverDogs 10-7 win over Rome. He went three for four with two doubles, three RBIs and four runs. Josue Calzado singled, tripled and drove in three runs.
Stephan Artz picked up the win. He improved to 2-0 and he gave up one run on two hits with two strikeouts in two innings of relief.
Josue Calzado singled home Mitch Hilligoss in the bottom of the tenth inning to win it for the RiverDogs. Hilligoss finished with two hits and he scored two runs while Calzado went three for five and he drove in another run with a solo homer.
Stephan Artz improved to 1-0 in the 3-2 win with an impressive relief outing. He didn’t allow a baserunner in two shutout innings and he struck out five of the six batters he faced.
The RiverDogs didn’t get too many chances as they were held to five hits in a 5-3 loss to Asheville. Josue Calzado had a hand in all three Charleston runs and he went two for four with a double, a homerun, two RBIs and two runs.
Ferdin Tejada took the loss and he fell to 1-1 on the season. He gave up two runs on three hits in just two innings of work.
The RiverDogs beat Kannapolis 4-2 and all four runs scored by Charleston were unearned as they capitalized on three Kannapolis errors. Josue Calzado went two for four while Kevin Smith went one for three with a run.
Brady Martinez improved to 2-2 on the season. He gave up just one hit and a walk with three strikeouts in 2 1/3 shutout innings. Grant Duff walked seven batters in 4 2/3 innings but he gave up just one run.
The RiverDogs could push just one baserunner across the plate in their 3-1 loss to the Catfish. Josue Calzado went two for four with an RBI while Seth Fortenberry went two for four with a double.
A pretty good start by Grant Duff went to waste. He gave up just one run on seven hits and one walk with three strikeouts in six innings of work.
Ivan Nova fell to 4-4 on the seasoon with a tough start in the RiverDogs 11-4 loss to the Sand Gnats. He gave up eight runs on eight hits and four walks with two strikeouts in four innings of work.
Christopher Kunda went one for three and he drove in two runs. Josue Calzado went two for four with a run and an RBI.
Michael Dunn improved to 9-3 on the season with a great start in the RiverDogs 4-0 win over Rome. He gave up just one hit and two walks with eight strikeouts in seven shutout innings.
Josue Calzado went two for four with a double, two RBIs and a run. Christopher Kunda went two for three with a double and two RBIs.
The RiverDogs topped Rome 7-1 and they racked up 18 hits to get those seven runs. Josue Calzado was the hitting star. He went four for five with a double, two RBIs and a run. Christopher Malec also had a nice game and he went three for four with two doubles, two RBIs and a run.
David Robertson picked up the win and he improved to 3-2 on the season with two no-hit innings of relief. He walked one and struck out three in the win.
The RiverDogs used five pitchers in this game and four of them gave up runs. Michael Dunn didn’t even finish the third in his start and he gave up three runs. Nicholas Petersen gave up the most runs with four runs to his credit in just 2/3 of an inning.
Eduardo Nunez singled and drove in two runs. Josue Calzado went two for four with a double and an RBI.
Grant Duff was very impressive in the RiverDogs 2-1 win over Greenville. He threw five shutout innings and he gave up just one hit and three walks with six strikeouts.
Wilmer Pino doubled and drove in a run while Josue Calzado doubled and scored a run. They scored just enough for the win though.
