For the second straight start, Ian Kennedy had a good enough start but he didn’t pick up the win because of a lack of run support. He gave up one run on three hits and two walks with four strikeouts in five innings of work. Jeff Kenard took the loss and he gave up two runs in three innings.
Brett Gardner went two for four with a double and a run. Andy Cannizaro singled twice and he scored the other run.
The Thunder beat Akron 8-7 as they continued to pad their division lead (which is now six games). Justin Christian had a nice day at the plate. He went three for four with two doubles, a triple, two RBIs and a run. Shawn Garrett and Matt Carson each went two for three with a homerun, two RBIs and two runs.
Jeff Kenard picked up the win with two shutout innings of relief. He gave up two hits and struck out three and the win improved his record to 1-3 on the season.
Another good start by Brett Smith went to waste today as the Thunder gave up him little run support. He gave up a run on one hit and three walks with three strikeouts in eight innings. Jeff Kenard gave up the winning run by getting into a jam in the tenth and then Jospeh Muich let the winning score on a passed ball.
Matt Carson had the only extra base hit of the game. He tripled and he scored the only Thunder run.
The Trenton Thunder got some very good pitching last night as they doubled up Bowie 4-2. Jeffrey Marquez picked up the win in his five inning start. He gave up two runs on two hits and a walk with five strikeouts. Jeff Kennard struck out three in two shutout frames and then Kevin Whelan was awesome in his two shutout innings. He struck out five of the seven batters he faced.
Brett Gardner was the only Thunder player with two hits. He singled twice and scored a run.
