Jeff Karstens was slated to start for the Yankees this year and after some rough starts and an injury, he found himself making a five stop rehab tour that ended with SWB where he ended up landing. That was SWB’s gain though because he’s been a solid pitcher down the stretch. In this one, he improved to 3-0 and he gave up five hits with ten strikeouts in seven shutout innings.
Jose Cruz, Jr. went three for four with an RBI. Mike Kinkade went one for two with a walk, an RBI and two runs.
Jeff Kartstens improved to 2-0 on the season with a nice start in SWB’s 5-2 win over Rochester. He gave up two runs on five hits and two walks with five strikeouts in six innings of work.
Kevin Thompson went three for four with a solo homerun. Eric Duncan doubled twice, drove in a run and scored.
Most of this game was an interesting 1-1 pitchers duel that went through ten innings. Then in the eleventh, the Bats exploded for five runs to open the game up in what turned out to be a 6-1 loss. Jeff Karstens threw six shutout innings but that was essentially wasted when Charlie Manning was tagged for five runs in the eleventh.
Angel Chavez drove in the only run for the Yankees with a solo shot in the eighth inning. Wil Nieves went two for five.
Jeff Karstens improved to 1-0 on the season for SWB since joining the team in their 7-2 win over Charlotte. He gave up just one run on three hits and a walk with six strikeouts in six innings of work.
Kevin Reese pretty much was the Yankees offense. He went two for three with a grand slam and five RBIs. Brett Gardner went two for five with two runs.
Cody Ehlers led the way at the plate in the Thunder’s 6-3 win over Binghamton. He doubled three times, drove in three runs and scored once. Matt Carson walked, drove in a run and scored twice.
Jeff Karstens had another nice rehab start. He gave up one run on four hits and two walks with five strikeouts in five innings of work.
Jeff Karstens continued his rehab assignment and while he gave up his first earned run in three starts for three different teams, it was good enough for another win. He gave up one run on four hits with eight strikeouts in five innings.
Taylor Holliday singled twice, scored two runs and drove in two. Justin Snyder went three for five with two RBIs and a run.
Jeff Karstens held Clearwater to three hits and a walk with five strikeouts in five innings of work in Tampa’s 3-0 win. Ian Kennedy picked up the win in relief and he gave up just a single hit in three innings.
Jose Tabata continued to hit the ball very well. He went two for four with a triple and two RBIs. The two hits raised his batting average to an even .400 on the season.
