Charleston outhit Savannah 8-6 and Abraham Almonte was the hitting star in the win. He went four for five with three RBIs. Justin Snyder went three for five with two doubles and an RBI while Jesus Montero went two for five with a double, a solo homer and two runs.
Jairo Heredia improved to 1-0 with a good enough start. He gave up three runs on five hits and two walks with six strikeouts. Lance Pendleton gave up two runs in 2 2/3 but he struck out seven batters to bring his season total up to twelve in 4 2/3 innings.
The RiverDogs walked away with two wins tonight, the first a tight game and the second a blowout. Game one was 5-4 and while Jairo Heredia wasn’t exceptional, he put together four decent innings in which he struck out an impressive seven batters. Brad Suttle was the only hitter with two hits and he drove in a run.
The second game was a 13-0 beatdown. There were plenty of hitting stars but David Williams was a notch above the rest. He went four for five with a double, three RBIs and a run. Noel Castillo had an exceptional start but he fell a batter short of picking up the win. He gave up three hits and two walks with eight strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings.
Jairo Heredia fell to 2-2 on the season with a rough relief appearance in the GCL Yankees 6-4 loss to the GCL Braves. He gave up four runs on nine hits and a walk with four strikeouts in five innings of relief.
Abraham Almonte went four for four with a double and two solo homeruns. Brandon Laird belted a two run homer in the loss.
The GCL Yankees poured on the offense in their 10-2 win over the GCL Braves and it was Kelvin Castro who was the hitting star. He went three for five with two triples, three RBIs and two runs. Prilys Cuello also had a nice game and he went two for six with a double, and RBI and two runs.
Jairo Heredia improved to 2-1 with five solid innings of relief. He gave up one run on three hits with five strikeouts.
The GCL Yankees picked up two runs in their doubleheader over the GCL Braves. In the first game, Prilys Cuello hit a two run homer and Andres Perez singled three times and drove in a run in a 7-4 win. Matt Foard picked up the win with three innings of shutout relief.
In the second game, the GCL Yankees won a 2-1 pitcher’s duel. Brandon Thomson picked up the win with two shutout innings and Jairo Heredia struck out eight in five solid innings. Abraham Almonte was the hitting star and he went two for three with a run and an RBI.
The GCL Yankees lost their opener 2-1 but it wasn’t because their pitchers didn’t step up. Noel Castillo gave up just one run on four hits with six strikeouts in four innings in his start, and despite taking the loss, Jairo Heredia gave up a run in 3 2/3 and he struck out five.
The offense managed just five hits in the game. Ryan Wehrle had two of those and Prilys Cuello went one of three with a walk and an RBI.
