Angel Chavez doubled home Brett Gardner in the top of the eleventh inning to win it for the Yankees. Chavez also pitched in earlier in the 5-4 win with a solo homerun and Bronson Sardinha had a team high three hits.
Ian Kennedy had a mediocre start (for him) and he gave up three runs on seven hits and four walks with two strikeout in two innings. Edwar Ramirez struck out five in two innings and he improved to 1-0 on the season.
The Thunder topped Connecticut 5-3 and Justin Christian led the Thunder at the plate. He went three for four with a double, a triple, two RBIs and two runs.
Edwar Ramirez picked up the win with two shutout innings of relief. He gave up just one walk and he struck out three.
Erick Abreu had a tough start today for Tampa. He gave up three runs on seven hits in just three innings. Fortunately, the pen was very good today as three relievers combined to throw six no-hit innings. Mike Martinez was particularly good and he threw three no-hit frames to pick up the win.
Edwar Gonzalez went two for four with an RBI in the 4-3 win. Kevin Russo went two for three with a double and a run.
Wow. The Trenton Thunder got some awesome pitching today as they swept a double header against Connecticut. The second game went 15 innings and the Defenders failed to score in either one.
Allan Horne got it done in the first game. He gave up five hits and he struck out eight in six shutout innings. Kevin Whelan threw a shutout seventh and he picked up his second save of the season. The lone run in the 1-0 win came on a solo homerun by Gabe Lopez.
In the second game, Brett Smith threw 5 2/3 shutout innings and he struck out seven. Edwar Ramirez pitched three innings of one hit ball and he struck out four as he picked up the win. Brett Gardner was the hitting star. He went two for seven with a triple, a run and an RBI in the 2-0 win.
The Trenton Thunder scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth to send the game the into extra frames and then they won it in the bottom of the twelth when Cody Ehlers drove home Juan Francia on a ground out to shortstop. Instead of going home or trying for a double play, shortstop Seth Bynum threw to first and that cost Harrisburg the game.
Aarom Baldiris had two singled and two RBIs while Francia went three for four with two runs and RBI in the 5-4 win. Edwar Ramirez picked up the win with 1 2/3 no hit innings. He walked three and struck out three.
Jason Brown got his first start of the season and he made it count with a great day at the plate. He went three for three with two doubles and two runs. Brett Gardner and Gabe Lopez both drove in three runs in the 8-5 win.
Allan Horne picked up the win in a solid outing. He did give up three runs but it was on five hits and two walks with an impressive seven strikeouts. Edwar Ramirez struck out the side in the eighth in a solid relief appearance.
