Tampa outlasted Clearwater tonight in a 4-3, eleven inning win. Edwar Gonzalez was the hitting star with a pair of solo homers while Eduardo Nunez drove home the go ahead run and he later scored the game winner.
Alfredo Aceves had a solid start and he gave up just one run in five innings. Jose Valdez pitched 2 2/3 shutout innings and he improved to 2-0.
Tampa took care of Dunedin 7-1 and it was Edwar Gonzalez and Mitch Hilligos who got it done at the plate. Gonzalez went three for five with two doubles, three RBIs and two runs while Hilligoss went three for five with two RBIs and two runs.
Alfredo Aceves improved to 2-0 with a solid start. He gave up one run on four hits and one walk with four strikeouts in five innings.
Edwar Gonzalez had a monster day at the plate in the Yankees 8-5 win over Sarasota. He went four for five with a double, two homeruns, six RBIs and three runs. James Cooper went three for four with four runs.
Jose Valdez picked up the win. He gave up a single hit with a strikeout in two innings of shutout relief.
Jose Valdez gave up a run in the bottom of the tenth inning as the Yankees lost to Sarasota 5-4. He gave up three hits and he was able to get only one out in the inning.
Edwar Gonzalez homered and drove in three runs in the loss. Christopher Malec went two for three with a double, a triple, a walk, an RBI and two runs.
Elvys Quezada improved to 4-4 on the season with a nice start in Tampa’s 8-4 win over Clearwater. He gave up two runs on six hits and one walk with four strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings.
Jared Greenwood had just one single but he drove in three runs and scored. Edwar Gonzalez went two for three with a walk, two runs and an RBI.
In the top of the ninth inning, Christopher Malec belted a solo homer to tie it and then Austin Jackson scored on Andres Perez’s sac. fly for the winning run. Edwar Gonzalez had a team hit three hits and he scored a run.
David Robinson picked up the win with two innings of shutout relief. He gave up a hit and struck out two and the win pushed his record to 3-1.
Tampa needed plenty of offense but they got it done in a 10-7 win over Palm Beach. Christopher Malec led the way with a grand slam and five RBIs. Edwar Gonzalez went two for four with a walk and three runs.
George Kontos improved to 4-4 but it wasn’t pretty. He gave up six runs (five earned) on seven hits and two walks with four strikeouts in six innings of work.
Brett Smith took the loss in this game and while he did give up four runs in the first inning, the loss was more of a team effort by the pitching staff. Two relievers were shelled for at least three runs a piece as well. Smith fell to 0-2 and he gave up the four runs on five hits and three walks with a strikeout in just three innings of work.
Jose Tabata and Edwar Gonzalez led the way at the plate for the Yankees in the loss. They both had two singles and two runs. Jason Giambi continued his rehab and he went one for three with a walk.
George Kontos improved to 3-4 on the season with a nice start in Tampa’s 3-1 win over Sarasota. He gave up one run on seven hits and two walks with eight strikeouts in six innings of work.
Edwar Gonzalez went two for five with a double, an RBI and a run. Austin Jackson singled, doubled, drew a walk, drove in a run and scored.
Jose Tabata doubled home Austin Jackson in the top of the tenth inning as Tampa edged St. Lucie 3-2. Edwar Gonzalez provided the rest of the Yankees offense in the third inning on a two run single.
Joshua Schmidt improved to 4-0 with 1 2/3 innings of shutout relief. Kevin Whelan continued to make progress after his demotion with a nice start. He gave up one run on three hits and two walks with seven strikeouts in five innings.
Anthony Claggett gave up five runs in five innings but because the Yankees came back, he didn’t take the loss. Unfortunately, David Robertson gave up two runs in his two innings of work and he gave the lead back up to St. Lucie.

Daniel McCutchen continued his solid season with a nice start and he improved to 8-1 in Tampa’s 6-3 win. He gave up two runs on eight hits with six strikeouts in seven innings of work.

Steven White made his first start of the season and he impressed in Tampa’s 8-3 win over Lakeland. He gave up just one run on six hits and a walk with six strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings.

Edwar Gonzalez brought a big stick in Tampa’s 9-4 win over Jupiter. He went two for five with three RBIs and a run. Colin Curtis went three for five with two RBIs and a run.
Daniel McCutchen picked up the win and he improved to 4-0 on the season. He gave up three runs on five hits and four walks with two strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings.
Kei Igawa took the loss in Tampa’s blowout loss to Fort Myers but his start wasn’t all that bad. He gave up two unearned runs on three hits and two walks with two strikeouts in four innings of work.
Edwar Gonzalez had a nice game at the plate. He went two for five with a double and an RBI in the 8-3 loss.
Ian Kennedy had another nice start and the win pushed his record to 4-1. He gave up two hits and three walks with eleven strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings. The eleven strikeouts is a season high and Kennedy now has 47 strikeouts in 44 innings.
Francisco Cervalli provided most of the offense in the 6-1 win. He drove in five with a grand slam and a sac. fly while Edwar Gonzalez went two for five with two runs.
Tampa hitters managed just one run on six hits yesterday in their 3-1 loss to Dunedin. Edwar Gonzalez drove in the lone run for the Yankees and Juan Miranda went two for four with a double.
Mike Martinez gave up just one run in four innings but that was enough to take the loss. He gave up four hits and a walk with three strikeouts.
Daniel McCutchen picked up his first win of the season with 6 1/3 solid innings in his start. He gave up just one run on three hits with two strikeouts.
Edwar Gonzalez had a nice day at the plate in the 3-2 win. He went two for four with two doubles and two RBIs. Tim Battle finished with three hits, a run and an RBI.
