RiverDogs Hold On To Beat Rome

by @ 6:01 pm. Filed under Abraham Almonte, Charleston RiverDogs - April 2008, Dellin Betances, Jonathan Ortiz, Wady Rufino

Here’s one reason why the save statistic can be a bit off at times.  Jonathan Ortiz gave up two earned runs in the top of the ninth inning to make a three run game a razor thin, one run victory.  For his troubles, he picked up the save because he came into the game with a three run lead.  Dellin Betances had a nice start.  He gave up two runs on six hits and two walks with seven strikeouts in five innings.  The two runs came on a pair of solo homers.

Wady Rufino went two for four with a homerun and two RBIs in the 5-4 win.  Abraham Almonte went three for four with an RBI.

by @ 11:59 pm. Filed under Damon Sublett, Dellin Betances, Frank Lonigro, Staten Island Yankees - June 2006

Just about everyone was a hitting star in Staten Island’s 9-1 win over Aberdeen.  Frank Lonigro was very productive with a double, two runs and two RBIs.  Damon Sublett went two for four with a triple, two RBIs and a run.

Dellin Betances improved to 1-0 with the win.  He gave up one run on three hits and three walks with four strikeouts in five innings.

Yankees Top Ten Prospects - Number Five - Dellin Betances

by @ 4:38 pm. Filed under Dellin Betances

Dellin Betances was the Yankees eighth round pick last year and this one could be a huge steal.  At 18 years of age, he put up some very solid numbers in seven starts in the Gulf Coast League.  He struck out 27 and walked only 7 in 23 1/3 innings with a 1.16 ERA.  He’s 6′8″ and while he has a ways to go until he sees a Yankees uniform, he’s a guy to keep an eye on in Charleston where I expect him to spend the entire season unless he’s dominating, it forces the Yankees to send him to Tampa.

Baseball America Top 100 Features Five Yankees

by @ 10:47 am. Filed under Dellin Betances, Humberto Sanchez, Joba Chamberlain, Jose Tabata, Philip Hughes

The Yankees are pretty well represented on Baseball America’s top 100 prospect list.  Of course Phillip Hughes is near the top at number four.  Further down the list is outfield prospect Jose Tabata at 27, Humberto Sanchez landed at number 57, Joba Chamberlain was 75 and just making the cut is Dellin Betances at 100.

That’s a solid crop.  You figure an average team should have about three guys on there and for the Yankees to have three in the top 60 is particularly impressive.
