The pitching wasn’t quite there but the Yankees made up for it at the plate as they took care of Clearwater 9-6. Daniel Brewer led the way and he went three for five with a double, four RBIs and a run. Jack Rye also had a nice game and he singled four times and scored three runs.
Ryan Zink picked up the win and he improved to 8-10. He gave up three runs on five hits and one walk with two strikeouts in six innings. Jonathan Hovis struck out the final batter of the game and he picked up his 21st save of the season.
Tampa finally got a couple of games in after a couple of days of rain and the end result is a doubleheader split with St. Lucie. In game one, the Yankees comeback fell short in a 5-4 loss. They scored three in the seventh inning but couldn’t push across the winning run. Daniel Brewer went three for four with a double, a run and an RBI. Eric Fryer went two for four. Ryan Zink took the loss and he fell to 4-7. He gave up four runs on seven hits and three walks with four strikeouts in six innings.
Game two went substantially better and it was Lance Pendleton who threw a gem of a game. He gave up just a hit and a walk with two strikeouts in five shutout innings. Jonathan Hovis struck out two in a shutout seventh and he picked up his tenth save of the season. Seth Fortenberry went two for three with a double and a run while Daniel Brewer went two for four with a run.
Pat Venditte gave up a run in the ninth inning and that proved to be the difference in a 3-2 loss to Augusta. He gave up just one hit but it was a leadoff triple and while he punched the next batter out, the following hitter belted one deep enough to score the game winner.
All six RiverDogs hits were singles. Daniel Brewer singled, drew a walk and scored a run.
The RiverDogs had their share of hitting stars in an 11-4 win over Augusta but nobody drove in more runs then Neall French. He finished two for four and he drove in four runs while Daniel Brewer had two doubles, two triples, two RBIs and four runs.
David Phelps continued his impressive season and he improved to 7-1. He gave up four runs (one earned) on eight hits and a walk with six strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings.
