Chris Carrara led the RiverDogs at the plate as they lost to Rome 7-5. He went one for three with a triple, three RBIs and a run. Josue Calzado went three for three with a double, an RBI and a run.
Bryan Villalona dropped to 0-3 with the loss. He gave up three runs on seven hits with three strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings.
The RiverDogs and Rome each took a game as they wrapped up a doubleheader. Game one saw Charleston take care of Rome 6-4 behind the bat of Seth Fortenberry. The centerfielder went two for three with two doubles, three RBIs and a run. Grant Duff improved to 14-8 and he gave up two runs in his five inning start.
Game two didn’t go as well as Bryan Villalona was tagged for four runs in the second inning. He fell to 0-2 on the season and Josue Calzado led the way at the plate. He doubled and drove in two runs.
Bryan Villanola improved to 3-4 on the season with four shutout innings or relief in Tampa’s 8-0 win over Vero Beach. He gave up two hits and a walk with three strikeouts.
Austin Jackson had the big hit of the game. He belted a three run homer in the fifth inning. Russell Raley went one for three with two RBIs and a run.
Tampa was held to just five hits in their 5-0 loss to Jupiter. None of the hits were for extra bases and Colin Curtis went two for three and he also drew a walk.
Bryan Villalona had a rough start and he took the loss. He gave up five runs on six hits and three walks with two strikeouts in four innings.
Roger Clemens starting for the Yankees was the big news of the day an he didn’t disappoint. He gave up just one run on three hits with two strikeouts in four solid innings. Bryan Villalona picked up the win with five shutout innings in which he gave up just two hits and two walks.
Reggie Corona pretty much was the offense in the 2-1 win. He hit a two run homerun in the third that put Tampa up for good.
Bryan Villalona was hit hard in Tampa’s 6-3 loss to Sarasota. He gave up five runs in just four innings and he dropped to 1-2 on the season.
Jose Tabata was the hitting star in the loss. He went three for five with a double and an RBI. He’s hitting .389 on the year and he has 14 hits in 10 games.
The Tampa Yankees got some solid pitching in both games of their doubleheader with Clearwater but only walked away with one win. In the first game, Bryan Villalona gave up just a single run on six hits and a walk with two strikeouts in five innings. Juan Miranda was the hot hitter in the game. He went two for two with a homerun and two RBIs.
In the second game, Ian Kennedy had a really nice start but he took the loss because the Yankees got shutout. He gave up a single run on three hits and two walks with four strikeouts in six innings.
Trenton isn’t the only team that got shut down as the Tampa Yankees were held to three hits in a five inning rain shortened game. They ran into top pitching prospect Andrew Miller who shut out Tampa.
