In the top of the ninth inning, Christopher Malec belted a solo homer to tie it and then Austin Jackson scored on Andres Perez’s sac. fly for the winning run. Edwar Gonzalez had a team hit three hits and he scored a run.
David Robinson picked up the win with two innings of shutout relief. He gave up a hit and struck out two and the win pushed his record to 3-1.
Brett Smith has been kind of anamoly this season. He put together a decent season for Trenton but he got sent down when some of the higher end prospects moved up. Since his demotion, he’s been pummelled and he fell to 0-4 with another rough start in Tampa’s 9-5 loss to Fort Myers. He gave up eight runs on eleven hits and two walks with three strikeouts in four innings.
Andres Perez went two for four with a triple and two RBIs. Austin Jackson continued to rake and he went two for three with a walk and three runs.
Tampa scored four first inning runs but didn’t score again as they lost to Palm Beach 5-4. Andres Perez was the hitting star in the loss. He went three for four with a homerun and three RBIs. Christopher Malec walked twice and drew a walk.
Joshua Schmidt took the loss and he fell to 5-1. He gave up one run on four hits and two walks in just two innings.
The GCL Yankees took care of the GCL Phillies 7-1 and it was Ryan Wehrle who was the biggest run producer at the plate. He went two for three with a homerun and three RBIs. Andres Perez went three for four with a homerun and two RBIs.
Casey Erickson improved to 2-0 on the season. He gave up five hits and a walk with four strikeouts in 3 2/3 shutout innings of relief.
The GCL Yankees picked up two runs in their doubleheader over the GCL Braves. In the first game, Prilys Cuello hit a two run homer and Andres Perez singled three times and drove in a run in a 7-4 win. Matt Foard picked up the win with three innings of shutout relief.
In the second game, the GCL Yankees won a 2-1 pitcher’s duel. Brandon Thomson picked up the win with two shutout innings and Jairo Heredia struck out eight in five solid innings. Abraham Almonte was the hitting star and he went two for three with a run and an RBI.
Michael Dunn threw 6 1/3 shutout innings in the RiverDogs 5-2 win over Rome. He gave up four hits and a walk with three strikeouts.
Andres Perez was the only RiverDog with two hits. He both scored and drove in a run. Seth Fortenberry also helped out the cause with a two run homer.
Starter Garrett Patterson threw four shutout innings before giving way to the pen, who performed admirably. Nicholas Petersen picked up the win with shutout eighth and Jonathan Hovis picked up the save with a shutout ninth. It was his fourth save of the season.
Seth Fortenberry was the hitting star. He went two for four with a double and an RBI in the 2-1 win. Andres Perez tripled and he scored a run.
