GCL Yankees Top GCL Braves in Ten Innings

It took 11 runs and ten innings but the GCL Yankees prevailed in their 11-9 win over the GCL Braves.  Kevin Mahoney went two for six with two doubles and three RBIs while Isiah Brown belted a three run home run.

Paul Heider struck out two in a shutout ninth and he improved to 2-1.  Dan Miller pitched a shutout tenth and he picked up his first save of the season.

Bullpen Collapses In RiverDogs Win

A decent start by David Phelps went to waste as the RiverDogs lost to Charleston 6-2.  He gave up two runs on three hits and four walks with five strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings.  Brandon Braboy struck out three, but he gave up three runs in 1 1/3 innings and he fell to 2-3 on the season.

Mitch Abeita went two for three with a solo home run in the loss.  Raymond Kruml went two for four.

Thunder Edges Fisher Cats 2-1 In Eleven Innings

The Thunder took care of the Fisher Cats but they need some great pitching and eleven innings to do it.  Wilkin De La Rosa threw four shutout innings in his start and then Grant Duff struck out four in two shutout innings to close out the game and he improved to 1-0 on the season.

Austin Krum was the hitting star in the 2-1 win.  He went three for five and he scored both Thunder runs.

Staten Island Held to Five Hits in Loss to Hudson Valley

Staten Island had a tough time getting anything going at the plate as they lost to Hudson Valley 2-1.  Carmen Angelini went two for three with a double and an RBI.  Luke Murton doubled and he scored a run.

A solid start by Trenton Lane went to waste.  He gave up one unearned run on one hit with eight strikeouts in five innings.  The loss dropped his record to 1-2 on the season.

SWB Held to Single Run In Loss to Buffalo

The Yankees had a tough time pushing runners across the plate and despite some decent pitching, they lost to Buffalo 4-1.  Ramiro Pena went two for four with a double and a run while Yurendell de Caster went two for four with a double.

Romulo Sanchez fell to 2-1 with the loss.  He gave up three runs on five hits and two walks with two strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings.

Kevin Mahoney leads GCL Yankees In Win Over GCL Tigers

Kevin Mahoney was the hitting star for the GCL Yankees in their 3-1 win over the GCL Tigers.  He went two for four with two doubles, two RBIs and a run.  Kelvin De Leon also pitched in with a pair of singles and an RBI.

Michael O’Brien had a solid start and he gave up a run on two hits with four strikeouts in four innings.  Dan Miller pitched two shutout innings and he improved to 1-0 while Julian Arballo pitched a shutout ninth to earn his fourth save.

SWB Yankees Take Two Over Red Sox

The Red Sox Yankees might not have had much luck against the Boston Red Sox but SWB got it done over Pawtucket last night with a pair of wins.  Game one went eleven innings and Mark Melancon was the star on the mound in the 3-2 win.  He gave up a hit and a walk in three shutout innings of relief and the win pushed his record to 4-0 on the season.  Juan Miranda went three for five with a walk and two RBIs.  Austin Jackson didn’t get a hit, but he walked three times and he scored and drove in a run.

Game two saw Kei Igawa get it done on the mound.  He improved to 7-3 and he gave up a run on six hits and a walk with three strikeouts in six innings.  Anthony Claggett pitched a shutout ninth to pick up save number four.  Austin Jackson went two for three with a solo home run in the 4-1 win. Shelley Duncan went two for two with two walks and an RBI.

Tampa Is Doubled Up By Brevard County

Humberto Sanchez had a rough start and he fell to 0-1 in the Tampa Yankees 6-3 loss to Brevard County.  He gave up three runs (two earned) on two hits and a walk with three strikeouts in 2 2/3 innings.

Matthew Cusick went three for four with a double, a triple and two runs.  Kevin Smith also had a nice game and he went two for four with a double and a run.

Andrew Brackman Has Rough Start in RiverDogs Loss to Asheville

Andrew Brackman fell to 1-6 on the season with a very rough start in the RiverDogs 6-5 loss to Asheville.  He gave up six runs on four hits and four walks with two strikeouts in just a single inning (he did pitch into the second but that was Asheville’s big inning with five runs.

Mitch Abeita went three for four with two runs and an RBI.  Corban Joseph singled three times in the loss.

Thunder Held to Five Hits In Loss to New Britain

The Thunder didn’t bring much to the plate as they were held to just five hits in a 3-1 loss to New Britain.  Jorge Vazquez singled twice and Reegie Corona singled, drew a walk and drove in the lone Thunder run.

Zach McAllister had a decent start go to waste.  He fell to 5-4 and he gave up three runs (two earned) on four hits and three walks with six strikeouts in six innings.

Adam Warren Throws Five Shutout Innings In Staten Island Win

Adam Warren improved to 1-1 on the season with a solid start in the Yankees 7-2 win over Lowell.  He gave up two hits and a walk with two strikeouts in five shutout innings.  Philip Bartleski struck out five and he didn’t allow a hit in two shutout innings of relief.

Kelvin Castro went two for three with a double, a triple, a walk, two RBIs and two runs.  Zoilo Almonte went one for three with a two run home run, a walk and two runs.

Daniel Gil Throws Five Solid Innings In GCL Yankees Win

Daniel Gil improved to 1-0 on the season with a nice start in the GCL Yankees 6-3 win over the GCL Pirates.  He gave up a pair of runs on two hits and a walk with four strikeouts in five innings.  Dan Miller also pitched in and he threw two shutout innings of relief.

Jose Mojica doubled twice, drove in a run and scored.  Kelvin De Leon went two for four with a double and two RBIs.

Jason Johnson Is Hit Hard In Thunder’s Loss to Erie

Jason Johnson had a really tough time and he fell to 0-2 on the season with a rough start in the Thunder’s 9-6 loss to Erie.  He gave up eight runs on eleven hits and two walks with three strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings.

Jorge Vazquez had a big day at the plate.  He went four for five with a home run, a double, three RBIs and two runs.  Jesus Montero went two for four with a solo home run.

Staten Island Loses to Lowell In Ninth Inning

Staten Island took a 5-4 lead into the ninth inning but walked away with a 6-5 loss.  Ronny Marte gave up the two ninth inning runs and he fell to 2-1.  Francisco Rondon struck out eight in four innings in his start.

Neil Medchill went two for two with a home run, two RBIs and two runs.  Kyle Higashioka went two for four with a run.

Cory Arbiso Has Solid Start In RiverDogs Win

Cory Arbiso improved to 2-5 on the season with a really nice start in the RiverDogs 3-0 win over Greenville.  He gave up two hits and he struck out four in 5 1/3 shutout innings.  Jonathan Ortiz struck out two in 1 2/3 innings and he picked up his second save of the season.

Jose Pirela doubled and drove in a pair of runs.  Mitch Abeita had the only other extra base hit with a double.

Tampa Sweeps Doubleheader Over Sarasota

Tampa got to make up their rain out from yesterday and they took both games in a doubleheader against the Reds.  Hector Noesi improved to 1-0 with a decent enough start.   He gave up three run son six hits and a walk with five strikeouts in five innings.  Seth Fortenberry went two for four with two RBIs while Austin Romine went two for three with a double, a solo home run and two runs.

Craig Heyer picked up the win in game two.  He improved to 3-2 and he gave up two runs (one earned) on three hits in four innings.  Jonathan Hovis threw a shutout ninth and he picked up save number 11.  Mitch Hilligos went two for four with a double and two runs while Brandon Laird went two for four with a double, a home run and four RBIs.

Sergio Mitre Has Rough Start In SWB Yankees Loss

Sergio Mitre fell to 2-1 on the season with a rough start in the SWB Yankees 4-3 loss.  He gave up four runs (three earned) on six hits and a walk with three strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings.

Ramiro Pena finished the game two for four with a run.  Austin Jackson pitched in with two singles and one run.

Brett Smith Is Hit Hard In GCL Yankees Loss

Brett Smith fell to 0-1 on the season with a rough start in the GCL Yankees 9-2 loss to the GCL Braves.  He gave up four runs on four hits with three strikeouts in two innings.  Jose Ramirez was also touched up and he gave up five runs in five frames.

Kevin Maloney drove in both Yankees run with a two run home run.  Jose Toussen went two for four in the loss.

Andrew Brackman Has Rough Start In RiverDogs Loss

Andrew Brackman fell to 1-7 and he had a tough time finding the plate in the RiverDogs 10-5 loss to Greenville.  He gave up five runs on eight walks (no hits) with four strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings.

Corban Joseph went two for four with a home run, two RBIs and two runs.  Garrison Lassiter went two for four with a double and an RBI.
