The RiverDogs made up their rain out game from the night before and lost both ends of a doubleheader to Hickory. The first game was a 5-2 loss and Ivan Nova took the loss with a rough start. He gave up five runs on seven hits and two walks with two strikeouts in four innings of work and the loss dropped him to 5-5 on the season. Kevin Smith belted a solo homerun for half of the RiverDogs runs.
The second game was closer but it was still a loss. Jonathan Hovis took the loss when he gave up a run in the eighth inning. Eric Hacker gave up three runs in five innings in his start and Kyle Anson and Timothy O’Brien both hit solo shots in the 4-3 loss.
Brett Smith took the loss in this game and while he did give up four runs in the first inning, the loss was more of a team effort by the pitching staff. Two relievers were shelled for at least three runs a piece as well. Smith fell to 0-2 and he gave up the four runs on five hits and three walks with a strikeout in just three innings of work.
Jose Tabata and Edwar Gonzalez led the way at the plate for the Yankees in the loss. They both had two singles and two runs. Jason Giambi continued his rehab and he went one for three with a walk.
Alan Horne improved to 10-3 on the season with a nice start in the Thunder’s 9-1 win over Binghamton. He gave up just the lone run on seven hits and two walks with six strikeouts in six innings of work.
Four different Trenton hitters had at least three hits in the game. Noah Hall went four for five with two doubles and three RBIs while Colin Curtis went three for five with a walk, a double, a triple, four runs and an RBI.
The Yankees managed only one run on six hits in a tough loss to the Rochester Red Wings. Eric Duncan and Juan Francia had the only extra base hits for the Yankees. Each had doubled and Duncan scored the lone run while Francia had the lone RBI.

The GCL Yankees lost to the GCL Phillies 3-2 despite the Phillies making four errors in the game. Brandon Laird was one of the hitting stars in the loss and he went three for four while Zoilo Almonte and Wady Rufino both hit solo homers in the loss.

Jairo Heredia improved to 2-1 with five solid innings of relief. He gave up one run on three hits with five strikeouts.
Staten Island blew a 1-0 lead in the top of the eighth only to come back and win it in the bottom half of the frame with two runs to make it a 3-2 final. The game winning run was a two RBI single by Jose Gil. Ryan Wehrle was the only Yankee hitter with two hits and he was also the only one to rack up an extra base hit with a double.

Edwar Gonzalez went two for five with a double, an RBI and a run. Austin Jackson singled, doubled, drew a walk, drove in a run and scored.
SWB lost 3-2 to Rocherster but the big league Yankees have to be pleased because Joba Chamberlain made his bullpen debut and was nothing short of fantastic. Three batters, three strikeouts. The Yankees may have just found their bullpen help without even pulling the trigger on a trade. In the meantime, Steven White fell to 3-3 despite a decent start. He gave up three runs on five hits and three walks with three strikeouts in six innings of work.
Justin Christian was the hitting star in the loss. He went two for four with a triple, an RBI and a run.
Staten Island lost a tough one to Tri-City in a 10-5 blowout. What’s funny is, Nicholas Chigges was the most effective of the three pitchers thrown out there, unfortunately, the one run he gave up gave Tri-City the lead so he fell to 2-4 with the loss. He gave up the one run on four hits with four strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings.
Taylor Holiday went three for five with a double, a homerun and two runs scored. Damon Sublett went two for four with two RBIs and a run.
Jason Jones fell to 8-6 on the season with a rough start in Trenton’s 6-2 loss to Reading. He gave up four runs (three earned) on six hits and a walk with three strikeouts in five innings of work.
Both Trenton runs came via solo shots. Dan Conway and Bronson Sardinha both hit one over the fence with nobody on base.
Philip Hughes continues to his impress in his rehab stint and he improved to 4-1 for SWB. He gave up just three hits and three walks with four strikeouts in 6 2/3 shutout innings in the 3-0 win. As an aside, the Yankees are going to put Joba Chamberlain in the pen because the big league club appears to be pretty dissatisfied with Kyle Farnsworth so his time at SWB could be coming to an end pretty soon.
Angel Chavez went one for three with two RBIs. Justin Christian went two for three with a walk and a run in the loss.
Tampa and Fort Myers played two because of a rain out the day before and both teams took a game. In the first game, Anthony Claggett threw five shutout frames and he improved to 4-8 on the season with the win. Christopher Malec was the hitting star and he went three for four with a run and an RBI in the 4-1 win.

Damon Sublett went three for five with a double and two RBIs. Justin Snyder went three for five with two doubles, an RBI and two runs.
Like Joba Chamberlain, Ian Kennedy transitioned nicely and threw six shutout innings in his debut for SWB. He gave up two hits and two walks with six strikeouts. It wasn’t good enough though because the pen gave up three runs and the hitters were shutout in a 3-0 loss.
SWB hitters reached base just five times with three singles and two walks. Erubiel Durazo and Kevin Reese both singled and drew walks.
Grant Duff fell to 11-7 on the season with a rough start in the RiverDogs 8-6 loss to Greenville. He gave up eight runs on seven hits and five walks in 2 1/3 innings.
Joseph Muich was the hitting star in the loss. He went two for four with a double, two RBIs and two runs.
You have to feel for Chase Wright. He got off to that fantstic start for Trenton and it earned him a couple of starts for the big league club. Then he got sent down to Scranton where did he pretty well but found himself the odd man out when they wanted to test Ian Kennedy and Joba Chmaberlain at Triple A. So he ends up back at Trenton and in his first start there, he gets pummelled for ten runs in his first Double A loss of the season.
Matt Carson went two for four with a homerun and three RBIs. Juan Miranda singled, scored a run and drove in a run.
Most of this game was an interesting 1-1 pitchers duel that went through ten innings. Then in the eleventh, the Bats exploded for five runs to open the game up in what turned out to be a 6-1 loss. Jeff Karstens threw six shutout innings but that was essentially wasted when Charlie Manning was tagged for five runs in the eleventh.
Angel Chavez drove in the only run for the Yankees with a solo shot in the eighth inning. Wil Nieves went two for five.
Noel Castillo improved to 3-2 on the season with a nice start in the GCL Yankees 7-3 win over the GCL Tigers. He gave up six hits and one run on one walk with four strikeouts in five innings.

Timothy O’Brien had a huge day at the plate in the RiverDogs 13-8 win over Greenville. He went three for five with two homeruns and four RBIs. Joseph Muich went three for five with a double, a homerun two RBIs and two runs.
Eric Hacker improved to 7-2 on the season with a nice start. He gave up two unearned runs on seven hits and a walk with three strikeouts in six innings.
Trenton lost 11-7 and while Tyler Clippard didn’t have a fantastic start, it was the pen who lost this one. Justin Pope gave up four runs and he fell to 1-2 on the season. Tim Lavigne was also knocked up for four runs in the loss.
